Microsoft recently introduced mixed/augmented reality capabilities to Power Apps. This exciting enhancement to Power Apps has numerous potential business applications: viewing 3D models of products in real environments; enhancing employee training or taking measurements that can be used within the Power App.
Previously mixed/augmented reality has been highly specialist and would require significant investment. With the introduction of this new capability into Power Apps, Microsoft have democratised mixed reality, making it possible for companies to rapidly build apps that could bring significant benefits.
New Zealand companies could benefit from mixed reality Power Apps in the following ways:
Viewing a product's dimensions in the real world
3D models of an object or a volumetric representation can be used to determine how an object will look in a real environment. This could be used to see if an object fits in a space, how it affects lines of site and visualise interactions with other objects. Sales representatives could use a mixed reality power app to demonstrate their products to a client or customer in their place of business.
Taking Measurements
Power Apps enables linear or volumetric measurements to be captured in real-time using the device's camera. Measurements can then be saved to a data source such as SharePoint or used within the app to initiate a business process.
